As we all know, Suzaku can be very impulsive, especially when it comes to...powerful emotional things. From various events that happened before mistletoe he was kind of suspicious of Lelouch's feelings, but when they had their talk he finally got fed up and confronted him about it...and wasn't prepared for the answer. Basically, he couldn't deal with the immediate emotional fallout and that was what the freakout was about. Because he loves Lelouch too but he loves Euphie and how can he do both at once? It was almost the "I wish you weren't Zero" all over again, and we know how that went. Then he backpeddaled almost immediately, realizing that was the wrong response, and returned to the role of the knight...not just Euphie's knight but knight of Zero, trying to be strong for him. The honest discussion that followed did help. But Suzaku's very bad at wanting things for himself, too. And still a little conflicted; after all, he still has to go back; he still hasn't totally forgiven Lelouch, although he's made strides in that direction; but he wants him. And he wants Lelouch to be happy too, especially since he's from after their promise has gone through.
